Locke and Demosthenes

Locke
John Locke was an English philosopher and physician regarded as one of the most influential of Enlightenment thinkers. His work had a great impact upon the development of epistemology and political philosophy. Locke was the first to define the self through a continuity of consciousness. He postulated that the mind was a blank slate or tabula rasa. Contrary to pre-existing Cartesian philosophy, he maintained that we are born without innate ideas, and that knowledge is instead determined only by experience derived from sense perception.
Demosthenes
Demosthenes was a prominent Greek statesman and orator of ancient Athens. His orations constitute a significant expression of contemporary Athenian intellectual prowess and provide an insight into the politics and culture of ancient Greece during the 4th century BC. He gave his first public speeches. He went on to devote his most productive years opposing Macedon's expansion. He wrote his speeches about the political views. He speaks about how Athens was corrupt while Valentine does the same thing but with her own world.

Technological Advancements

  • The Nets
  • The Desks
  • The Giants Drink Game
  • Battle Room
  • Freezing Guns
  • Space Suits
  • Finger Print Lockers
  • Space School
Do you think that the story presents technological advancement as being positive or negative?

I think that the story presents technological advancement as both positive and negative. Some of the positives are the desks and the lockers. One example would be the fingerprint on lockers which is a huge success. But there is also negatives included with Technology. One of them being the net where Valentine and Peter pretend to be what they are not and cause many disruptions and problems. So the answer to the question is yes, the story does present technological advancement as being both positive and negative.

What part do humans play in this advancement of technology? Do they drive the advancement or are they victims?

Humans play a major part in the advancement of technology. They drive the advancement and they are also the victims. They drive the advancements by using there brains to figure out new ideas but they are also the victims, when the buggers invaded they brought not only a bad smell but new weapons and gadgets. These gadgets were then copied into the human world.

AGE

The age of the book partly changed my opinion. It gave us the idea that the people back then thought the same as we did. It also tells us that some things haven't happened yet i the future but some things have happened. Some things that have happened was that they thought about internet back then when there was no such thing. Overall it has made me think that this future back then was just like us and i think that some things should have been made by now.
